Background
John Bowden Connally Jr. (1917–1993) was Texas Governor 1963-1969 + Treasury Secretary under Nixon 1971-1972. Riding in JFK's Dallas motorcade Nov 22 1963 — wounded by a bullet that passed through Kennedy's neck and entered Connally's back ("single bullet theory" of the Warren Commission). Switched D→R 1973; ran briefly for 1980 GOP presidential nomination (one of the most expensive failed primary campaigns to that date — won 1 delegate). Personal bankruptcy 1987 amid TX oil-bust real-estate failures.
