Mario Matthew Cuomo (1932–2015) was NY Governor for 3 terms (1983-1995). 1984 DNC keynote — "A Tale of Two Cities" — cemented him as a national figure. Twice declined to seek the Dem presidential nomination (1988, 1992). Father of Andrew Cuomo (NY Gov 2011-21) + journalist Chris Cuomo. Signed NY's first-in-nation seat-belt law (1984). Maintained an open Albany governor's mansion + handwritten daily journal. Died Jan 1 2015 — same day his son Andrew was inaugurated to a 2nd term.
