Eliot Laurence Spitzer (b. 1959) was NY State AG 1999-2006 + 54th NY Governor 2007-2008. Resigned March 12 2008 after federal Emperors Club VIP prostitution-ring investigation ("Client 9"). As AG: aggressive Wall Street enforcement (Merrill Lynch analyst conflicts, mutual-fund trading abuses, AIG accounting). 14-month tenure as Gov ended in scandal.
